A transitive verb is a verb that requires a direct object (e.g. I bought a book.).
1. (to disassemble) a. to dismantle El gobierno acaba de desmantelar una fábrica de metal por los desechos que estaba produciendo. The government has just dismantled a metal factory because of the waste it was producing. b. to take down Cuando terminó la gira de la obra de teatro, los productores mandaron desmantelar el escenario. When the play's tour was over, the producers had someone take down the stage. 2. (to break organization) a. to break up Para desmantelar completamente a la pandilla de traficantes, hay que atrapar a su líder. In order to break up the gang of dealers completely, we have to catch their leader. b. to disband Los conservadores están intentando desmantelar el grupo de los rebeldes. The conservatives are trying to disband the group of rebels. 3. (to empty) a. to strip Por fin capturaron a los ladrones que se dedicaban a desmantelar autos y vender las partes. The thieves that stripped cars and sold the parts were finally apprehended. 4. (nautical) a. to unrig Un grupo de piratas desmanteló la embarcación que se dirigía a Algeria.
