2. (to take sides with; used with "con")
a. to align with
El político se alineó con la Iglesia para intentar conseguir más votos de los católicos.The politician aligned with the Church to try to get more votes from Catholics.
b. to side with
Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, muchos países se alinearon con los aliados.During Second World War, many countries sided with the Allies.

a. to line up
El admirante alineó los buques de guerra a lo largo de la ensenada.The admiral lined up the battleships along the cove.
b. to put in a line
Mi hija alineó todas las fichas y tumbó la primera para ver el efecto dominó.My daughter put all the pieces in a line and toppled the first one to observe the domino effect.
c. to align
El entrenador alineó los conos en el medio de la cancha e hicimos ejercicios de regate.The coach aligned the cones in the middle of the field and we practiced dribbling drills.
4. (mechanics)
a. to align
El mecánico afinó el motor y alineó las ruedas del coche.The mechanic tuned the engine and aligned the wheels of the car.
5. (sports)
a. to select
Alineé a Nicolás en mi equipo no porque es un buen delantero, sino porque es mi mejor amigo.I selected Nicolas for my team not because he's a great forward, but because he's my best friend.
b. to pick
El entrenador me alineó a mí para que juegue de arquero.The coach picked me to be the goalkeeper.
