1. (to gain)
a. to collect

b. to gather
La defensa recabó información suficiente para probar que Gómez es inocente.The defense counsel gathered enough evidence to prove that Gomez is innocent.
c. to manage to get
Recabamos ayuda del gobierno para construir el refugio para animales.We managed to get help from the government to build an animal shelter.
d. to raise (funds)
La organización sin ánimo de lucro recabó fondos suficientes para ofrecer un concierto gratis.The non-profit organization raised enough funds to put on a free concert.
2. (to call for)
a. to claim
Los clientes pueden recabar el reintegro de su dinero si no están satisfechos con el producto.Customers can claim a refund if they are not satisfied with the product.
b. to demand
Los manifestantes recaban la liberación de los presos políticos.Protesters are demanding that political prisoners be set free.
c. to ask for
El juez no tiene que recabar permiso para actuar.The judge doesn't have to ask for permission to act.
