3. (to put out)
a. to evict
La casera desalojará a sus inquilinos si no pagan pronto el alquiler.The landlady will evict her tenants if they don't pay the rent soon.
b. to remove
El ayuntamiento pidió a la policía que desalojara a los manifestantes que acamparon en la plaza.The city hall asked the police to remove the protesters who had camped in the square.
c. to eject (by force)
El guardia de seguridad desalojó a los dos acosadores y llamó a la policía.The security guard ejected the two stalkers and called the police.
4. (nautical)
a. to displace
Los buques desalojan más agua en los ríos que en los mares, porque el agua dulce es menos denso.Ships displace more water in rivers than at sea, because fresh water is less dense.
