a. to charge at
El toro arremetió contra el torero y lo corneó.The bull charged at the bullfighter and gored him.
c. to lunge at
Se enfureció cuando el gorila no lo dejó entrar y arremetió contra él.He became furious when the bouncer wouldn't let him in and lunged at him.
d. to rush
El guardia de seguridad arremetió contra el ratero y logró detenerlo.The security guard rushed the shoplifter and managed to stop him.
2. (to criticize; used with "contra")
a. to attack
El periodista arremetió contra los que ignoran el sufrimiento de los indigentes.The journalist attacked those who ignore the suffering of the homeless.
b. to tear into (colloquial)
A word or phrase that is commonly used in conversational speech (e.g., skinny, grandma).
El artículo arremetió contra el presidente por sus últimas acciones.The article tore into the president for his latest actions.
c. to lay into (colloquial)
A word or phrase that is commonly used in conversational speech (e.g., skinny, grandma).
