A transitive verb is a verb that requires a direct object (e.g. I bought a book.).
1. (to bother)
a. to upset
Si me dices qué es lo que te aflige, tal vez te pueda ayudar.If you tell me what's upsetting you, I may be able to help.
b. to distress
La pérdida de su trabajo afligió mucho a Sandra.Sandra was really distressed by the loss of her job.
2. (to cause harm to)
a. to afflict
La pobreza y las enfermedades afligen a millones de personas en el mundo.Poverty and disease afflict millions of people around the world.

A pronominal verb always uses a reflexive pronoun. (e.g. Te ves cansado.).
3. (to be distressed)
a. to get upset
No te aflijas por ese problema, que ya pasará.Don't get upset about the problem; it will pass.
