My first post - A question about a song I'd hear in Costa Rica while watching soccer on television. lyrics of a song sung by soccer fans

Not a riveting success, for me, I guess , since my next post wasn't until Jan of this year. . .

Great post Ian!

My very first question was "Who makes the best wine? Chile or Argentina? Which is your favourite?" I had only been studying Spanish for a few weeks, but I gave the translation a stab.

I received only two answers and as soon as I read them I realized that I was 'looking for love in all the wrong places'.

I thought this guy enter image description here looked interesting....but all that changed when he gave me a cold shower.

His reply:

Neither one! I do not like alcoholic beverages!

The next answer was along the same lines....

..."hmmm I don't get your question bc this is a place to learn spanish or english not to know which wine is better, also I don't like wine or alcohol.. But if I have to answer your question I chose Chile Have a nice rest of weekend

It took me a long while to ask a second question....and it was a worse fiasco. I was going to add it to this post, but since I've been away, I can't seem to format my answers...so I will post this one until I figure out how to make links again. Sorry I was unable to make a link to the question so that's why I wrote it all out.

I often wonder where these guys are now....I never see them anymore.

Lol u poor thing, we're glad it didn't put you off. It's probably a good reminder to those of us who have been around SD for a while to bear in mind how we felt when we first arrived and how a brusque answer might be a rather off putting which I'm sure - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 22, 2014
... we'd never want to be. Btw I'd vote for Chilean reds ;) - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 22, 2014
We all should stick to the tried and tested maybe. but you have done amazingly well , look at all the fabulous threads that you are running now , they are an inspiration - ray76, Jun 22, 2014
Yes, I am so glad you stuck around, amiga. You have done a lot for SD and for all of us. - rac1, Jun 22, 2014
Muchas gracias amigos. @Ray...what means 'stick to tried and tested'? Wud ya 'splain it to me? I can follow instructions.:-) - 007c5fc1, Jun 23, 2014
I mean threads which can not only teach language but that are entertaining, they have always worked on SD. - ray76, Jun 23, 2014
Oh wow. You braved the tides. - katydew, Jun 23, 2014
Thank you...got it. Forgive my dilatoriousness...I think the tape on my leg is affecting my brain....sort of like an ice cream headache or tight undies. - 007c5fc1, Jun 23, 2014
I suffer from tight undies but it comes and then goes . - ray76, Jun 23, 2014
:) - ian-hill, Jun 23, 2014
Very glad you started the two threads - 4 Words or Less, and Rhyme Time; both of which, I think, will pass the test of time and will soon be on that list of "tried and tested" that Ray keeps in his vest pocket. ( - :` . . . - Esteban_317, Jun 24, 2014

It´s hard to remember that far back, but here is my virgin question:

My first thread

And I am still an idiot with computers. (How do you write something in place of "enter link description here"?)

My latest question: When is Ian going to start the "First Answer" thread?

I don't like to talk much about my first thread. I didn't think much before I posted it, and I am very ashamed of it.

I'm glad the people at SpanishDict decided to put up with me anyway!

I too have had some posts or threads that I don't like to review, but even from the worst post we will learn something - like "I shouldn't do that again!" - Jubilado, Jun 23, 2014
Thanks everyone! - 00ffada9, Jun 23, 2014
Was that the one where you and I were 'discussing' about whether or notyour post could only include Christian bible quotes vs other religious quotes? If that is the one, it's water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned ahora vamos a pasar al próximo. - 007c5fc1, Jun 23, 2014

Apparently, I was a real nitpicker. My first thread includes me fussing about how to spell a Spanish word that I intended to use in a conversation (without writing) anyway. To make things more interesting, both words came out correct.

Your question piqued my interest Ian and I wondered what kind of things I was posting when I first arrived.

Well I had to go back 22 pages worth to get to it but in May 2010 this was apparently my first post ...

Can pronominal verbs of motion be used in a non reflexive manner

I guess for me the only thing that has changed in relation to this site is my ability in Spanish which has improved. I still post out of intellectual curiosity to improve my use and understanding of Spanish. Supongo que para mí la diferencia existe en mi abilidad de usar español - que ha mejorado. Sigo poner con curiosidad intelectual y para mejorar mi uso y entendimiento.
