How do you spell this word
Hi everyone! This is my first question EVER on Spanish Dict! I'm so excited! I was just reading through my book yesterday when I came accross the word "Archdiocese". Type that in to the search box in Spanish Dict, and the translation will say "Archidiócesis". I've never seen "ch" sound like a "k" in spanish, and, that just looks wrong. I know that "c" cannot be used by itself because "i" is right after that letter, which makes it a "soft" c. The letters "qu" should be used in making a "k" sound, which would mean we should use "Arquidiócesis"; and sure enough, that very word was in the spanish section of my book, spelled with a "qu". So what do YOU think? "Arquidiócesis" or "Archidiócesis"?

¡Hola!, GuitarWarrior:
First a big welcome to the forum here at Span¡shD!ct. We all hope you enjoy any time you spend here in the question and answer area.
Both of those spellings appear in the DICCIONARIO DE LA LENGUA ESPAÑOLA (RAE). Follow this link to the page in the RAE ----> Arquidiócesis.
I am unsure why you seem to think that the "ch" sould not be pronounced as a "ch". It seems to me that in English the "ch" is not pronounced as a "k" and the word is 'arch diocese' and not 'ark diocese'. This same can be true in Spanish.
Muchos saludos/Best regards
Arquidiócesis
the first one with the "qui"
