Weekend Subjunctive Practice 21: No estar seguro de que

Question

¡Bienvenido a nuestro hilo! Each weekend, Cordobesa and I will present a different topic on everybody’s favorite subject… the subjunctive!

We will give an explanation of the topic, and a couple of examples.

Write sentences at least 5 words long. Write your Spanish sentence, and include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by Cordobesa in the comments section. Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)

Post pictures if you’d like, and don’t forget to vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the topic as well as the number of votes.

Weekend Subjunctive Practice 21: No estar seguro de que

Explanation:

We know that the indicative follows “creer que” and that the subjunctive follows “no creer que”, as seen in Weekend Subjunctive Practice 17. This is also true with “estar seguro de que” and “no estar seguro de que”. To review, this is because with “to be sure that”, a quality of certainty is introduced, and with “to not be sure that”, a quality of uncertainty is introduced.

Examples:

Estoy seguro de que no vienen. I am sure they are not coming.

No estoy seguro de que vengan. I am not sure they are coming.

Los hombres no están seguros de que la tienda esté abierta.

The men are not sure if the store is open.

Los hombres no estaban seguros de que la tienda estuviera abierta.

The men were not sure if the store was open.

A veces me despierto deseando cambiar el mundo y haciéndolo hacerlo mejor, mientras que otras veces no estoy segura de que sea correcto tratar de cambiar ni una sola cosa aparte de a mí misma.

No estoy seguro de que hoy lleguemos puntualmente a la casa de la amiga de mi esposa hoya la hora en punto , porque vamos con mi hija y su novio, y para ella una hora de llegada sólo es una sugerencia nebulosa, pero estoy seguro de que el plato que he prometido a llevar estará listo.

I am not sure that we will arrive at my wife's friends house today on time, because we are going with my daughter and her boyfriend, and for her an arrival time is just a vague suggestion, but I am sure that the dish I have promised to bring will be ready.

bosque I'd put 'hoy' before 'lleguemos' 'estoy seguro de que hoy lleguemos...' and you could say 'de mi esposa a horario'..estoy seguro 'de' que...prometido llevar...let's wait for Cordo maybe she has better suggestions - Pablo064, Apr 5, 2015

Sí se usa, Manity, pero más para hablar, por ejemplo, de un tren que sale a la hora en punto, o sea, a las dos, a las tres, etc., no para decir que es puntual (podría decirse, pero normalmente para esto decimos más "ha salido a su hora"). - Cordobesa, Apr 6, 2015

They were not sure if they had enough petrol to reach their hotel in Paris, considering (in view of the fact that) they were travelling in the early hours of the morning and most of the petrol stations would be closed!

Con correcciones: No estában seguro de que tuvieran suficiente gasolina para llegar a (o alcanzar) su hotel en París, teniendo en cuenta de que estaban viajando durante las horas de la madrugada ¡y la mayoría de las estaciones de servicio estarían cerradas!
