Weekend Subjunctive Practice 17: No creer que
¡Bienvenido a nuestro hilo! Each weekend, Cordobesa and I will present a different topic on everybody’s favorite subject… the subjunctive!
We will give an explanation of the topic, and a couple of examples.
Write sentences at least 5 words long. Write your Spanish sentence, and include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by Cordobesa in the comments section. Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)

Weekend Subjunctive Practice 17: No creer que
Explanation:
As we all know, after “creer que” the indicative is used because with “to believe that”, there is a quality of certainty. However, after “no creer que”, the subjunctive is used. This is because with “to not believe that”, a quality of uncertainty is introduced. And unlike other triggers we have seen, the subjunctive follows “no creer que” even if there is not a subject change.
Examples:
Ella cree que puede hacerlo. - She thinks that she can do it.
Ella no cree que pueda hacerlo. She doesn’t think that she can do it.
No creía que pudiéramos hablar ayer pero me alegro de que pudiésemos.*
I didn’t think that we would be able to talk yesterday but I’m glad that we could.
*Notice the 2nd form of the Imperfect Subjunctive. It is needed because of "alegrarse de que", and I used the 2nd form so as not to repeat "pudiéramos".
