Weekend Subjunctive Practice 20: Insistir en que
¡Bienvenido a nuestro hilo! Each weekend, Cordobesa and I will present a different topic on everybodys favorite subject the subjunctive!
We will give an explanation of the topic, and a couple of examples.
Write sentences at least 5 words long. Write your Spanish sentence, and include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by Cordobesa in the comments section. Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)
Post pictures if youd like, and dont forget to vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the topic as well as the number of votes.
¡Vamos allá!
Weekend Subjunctive Practice 20: Insistir en que
Explanation:
To "insist" on something in Spanish, "insistir en + infinitive" is used.
Insisto en pagar. I insist on paying.
Insistimos en quedarnos en casa. We insist on staying at home.
However, as we have seen many times in the past, if there is a change in subject, "insistir en que" is used followed by the subjunctive, as is seen in the following examples.
Examples:
Insisto en que vengáis a mi casa para una fiesta este fin de semana.
I insist that you all come to my house for a party this weekend.
Si entramos en su casa, insisten en que nos quitemos los zapatos.
If we go in their house, they insist that we take off our shoes.
¡Os toca a vosotros!
