Translation of the Day? Just an Idea...

Translation of the Day? Just an Idea...

I know that there is a word of the day here on SpanishDict but I was thinking that maybe someone could write/find a passage in Spanish and/or English and have a Passage/Translation of the day. People could then click on it and give their best attempt to translate it.

I really think that this would help people with learning Spanish because it would practice their translation abilities. Just an idea.....

Any exercise of the day is a good one. I think whoever starts it needs to keep posting the thread consistently and people will catch on.I thought about posting some jokes in Spanish from another site I have seen just to see if we get the joke once we translate it.

I would go for it but I do think a sentence or two would be enough.

I also think it might be ok even if there is redundancy. Someone might like a certain picture, for example, that doesn't strike another's fancy. Or you could look at it as another opprotunity for practice. But I wouldn't do it personally if I knew it stepped on another innovator's toes.

Hey Edge! Looks like you've started something pretty neat here. You probably have already seen the Oral Exercise by Carlos-F. Well, I'm going to take a shot at providing a Written Exercise. Here is my first one. Tell me what you think!

I would be glad to come up with the English passages if you want.

that's what I thought you were talking about. There are plenty of short texts with translations already. You could post them later. - nizhoni1, Dec 18, 2009
Or I would do it. This has run through my mind. - nizhoni1, Dec 18, 2009

Heidita has been putting up the 'Killer Translation of the Week'

Thanks, Margaret , and Chaparri, jeje, yes, mine are not apt for people with heart problems, LOL

The translations I put up, (and now that I am at it, I will post a new one now and this may be the last for this year as I will be away for some dayswink ) (no misbehaving!!! the dunce corner is already crowded anyway! jeje) are really difficult, not meant for beginners. The idea was to post something for the more advanced students.grin

But I am warning you : This is one the most difficult ones so far....I thinkwink A real killerwink

I understand, bookworm, my texts are only for advanced students and they take a lot of time, as they need research.

I have contacted Carlos who has already answered affimatively. Let's see if I can work something out with him. We are thinking of a translation a week, possibly even from English to Spanish, something easy, of course. Or we could do Spanish - English one week and English - Spanish the next.

Carlos is offering his help, let's seewink I have no time , sorry.

I like this idea very much! Because, Heidita, your translation posts are just too difficult for me confused

However, one main problem arises : who will find the texts and who will correct them? I will talk to Carlos...I don't know if he has time enough.

Anyway, translation of the day... I don't know, but probably of the week...I have already contacted Carlos, let's see if he has time.

I think it would be good idea too. Heidita has been putting up the 'Killer Translation of the Week' for a while now, but something more basic would be a good exercise for more people.

Perhaps we could convince a group of our native Spanish members to share the load and take turns. cheese
