Question

Hello Everybody! Welcome to the Picture of the Day! This is a game where you can all practice your Spanish and English, but still have fun at the same time! Post your comments/titles/captions to this picture (both in Spanish and English) and vote for the responses you like. The best answer will be chosen soon on the basis of the answer I feel is the best, the fact that the person has corrected their post and possibly the number of votes. When to use definite articles remains somewhat of a mystery to me. Just as a suggestion, Caza, we have been encouraged to use the strikethrough method for our corrections which helps everyone learn. It's up to you if want to use that method. :) - Sassette, Oct 7, 2017

Good training and proper riding result in a willing, responsive horse (the one on the right).

Absloutely correct. The horse on the right is obviously tense, but the rider is handling it perfectly and so the horse is not so adrenalized as to go into flight mode. That horse trusts his rider. The other two are a mess! - Echoline, Oct 7, 2017

Una caballería es muy espectacular, pero creo que ahora en las circunstancias modernas no es muy útil.

The cavalry is very spectacular, but I think now in the modern circumstances is not very useful.

Actually, there was a cavalry contingent in Afghanastan used by Special Forces to access remote locations. Obviously it is outdated in most circumstances but in this one it was very useful. - Echoline, Oct 7, 2017

@Polenta, "Charging into danger / harm's way" makes sense in English. I am too green at Spanish to know how to improve it. Something that implies riding towards (rather than away from) where danger is, or where danger awaits. - jrschenk, Oct 7, 2017

Mientras es cierto que los caballos están asustando, el tipo en el medio y el de la izquierda están empeorando por están tan severo con los manos.

Corrected version: Es cierto que los caballos se están asustando/espantando, pero es que el tipo que está en centro y el de la izquierda lo están empeorando porque están usando mano dura con los caballos.

While it is true that the horses are spooking, the guy in the middle and the one on the left are making it worse by being so severe with their hands.

No, but my daughter showed hunter/jumpers and rode in events. She did the dressage required for eventing. I rode only for pleasure, but I hung up my metaphorical spurs when I moved to Alaska. - AnnRon, Oct 7, 2017

Aunque actualmente pensamos en el calvario la caballería como si fuera una fuerza arcaica y por eso simbólica, muchos países usaron tropas montadas durante la segunda guerra mundial, y el ejército de los Estados Unidos tuvo que usar caballos de nuevo en Afganistán debido al terreno montañoso.

Although currently we think of the cavalry as being an archaic force and hence symbolic, many countries used mounted troops during the second world war, and the army of the United States had to use horses again in Afghanistan due to the mountainous terrain.
