Hello Everybody! Welcome to the Picture of the Day! This is a game where you can all practice your Spanish and English, but still have fun at the same time! Post your comments/titles/captions to this picture (both in Spanish and English) and vote for the responses you like. The best answer will be chosen soon on the basis of the answer I feel is the best, the fact that the person has corrected their post and possibly the number of votes. Pon tu comentario/ título/ pie de foto a esta im! agen (tanto en español como en inglés) y vota por las respuestas que te gusten. La mejor respuesta será seleccionada cuando pueda, tanto por la cantidad de votos como por la corrección en el uso del idioma.

Rules [regla] : Please, give everyone a chance and only post more or less one caption and no photos. Por favor, deja que todos tengan una oportunidad y pon más o menos una respuesta, sin fotos. Please make your answers at least two words long and no longer than three sentences. Sus respuestas no deben tener menos de dos palabras y no deben exceder de tres líneas. Encourage everyone with a vote and help each other with your English/Spanish sentences and above all have fun everyone.

Puede ser que esta foto es muy artística, pero no tengo mucha idea de que se trata. Tal vez es el profundo del mar, pero no puedo decir ¿si allí hay buceadores o renacuajos?

It may be that this photo is very artistic, but I have no idea what it is. Maybe it's the depth of the sea, but I cannot say if there are divers or tadpoles.?

Porcu: I would use sea instead of es here. Also "de qué se trata" Finally, I think you should omit "allí" ..... "Hay" translates as "there are" all my itself :) - DilKen, Jul 29, 2017
Actually I would not say "there are" in English, I would say "If they are divers or tadpoles" which would be ser (son) en español. :) - DilKen, Jul 29, 2017
Thanks DilKen - porcupine7, Jul 30, 2017

La vida es así, ¿no?.....cuando se piensa cree que tiene una foto del grupo junto, se recibe foto bombardeado por una ballena.

Life is like that, no? Just when you think you have a nice group photo together you get photobombed by a whale!

Echo: I could be wrong about this, but normally conjugated pensar + infinitive is translated into English as plan to verb. In this case, plan to have, which I think is a different meaning than your English. :) - DilKen, Jul 29, 2017
so should it be cuando se sienta tener for "just when you think you have"? - Echoline, Jul 29, 2017
Echo: You don't even need "think" in either language. Just when you have.... If you really want to have it in there I would say say piensas que tienes. Think that you have...with the "that" optional in English but the "que" required in Spanish. - DilKen, Jul 29, 2017
Also, it is perfectly fine, in my opinion, to include the word "think" in the English sentence but omit it in Spanish. We shouldn't strive for literal translations but typical captions in both languages, right? - DilKen, Jul 29, 2017
Use "creer" instead of "pensar" Most hispanohablantes prefer this. - Daniela2041, Jul 30, 2017
echo, please post a thread...this is a tricky sentence, - 006595c6, Jul 30, 2017

Hijo, ¿cuántas veces debo decirte que no tires a tus buzos de juguete por la borda?

Junior, how many times must I tell you not to throw your toy frogmen overboard?

Estas Estos submarinistas pueden ser apetitosos para mis primos, las orcas, pero a mí no me gustan nada. Yo sólo trago toneladas de plancton.

These scuba divers might be appetizing to my cousins, the killer whales, but I don't like them at all. I only swallow tons of plankton.

The divers float with the sea creatures. Los buzos flotan con los animales marinos.

La ballena echa una mirada a su amigo y dice ...... Los submarinistas se les ven muy feliz ahora mismo, pero obviamente no saben que ¡se está acercando un gran tiburón blanco!

The whale looks at his friend and says.............The scuba divers look very pleased with themselves right now, but they obviously don't know that a great white shark is approaching!

With corrections:

La ballena echa una mirada a su amigo y dice ...... a los buzos se les ve muy felices ahora mismo, pero obviamente no saben que ¡se está acercando un gran tiburón un blanco!
