Hello Everybody! Welcome to the Picture of the Day! enter image description here This is a game where we can practice our Spanish and English, but still have fun at the same time!

Happy New Year, everyone! - ¡Feliz Año Nuevo a todos!

The rules are very simple and remain more or less exactly as RelaxingCup designed them and H C A student continued.

  • Post your comments/titles/captions to this picture (both in Spanish and English) and vote for the responses you like. The best answer will be chosen soon on the basis of the greatest number of votes as well as the language accuracy.

  • Please, give everyone a chance and only post more or less one caption and no photos.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

. .Please help each other with your English/Spanish sentences. And above all, have fun!

Bill (William): " Here's to our future life together, Laura!"

Laura: " Wait a minute, please Bill ...let me get my breath back (recover my breath)! We've only just met and in two minutes you have already asked me to marry you and now you are toasting our future happiness together! Don't I have a say in all this?"

Bill: "Yes, of course, darling ..I'm so sorry ...you can help me choose our first house! " wink

Guillermo:? ¡Brindemos a nuestra vida juntos, Laura! wink

Laura:?

I have this concept for a movie, it's called "Groundhog's day". Nah, nobody would watch it.

I would like to make a toast to the new year, but I feel as if I'm caught in an ever-repeating loop.

I guess their New Year's Resolution was to drink less... they haven't taken a sip yet.

Katy, I would say: Todavía no han tomado un sorbo = They haven't taken a sip yet! - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
Or Todavía no han tomado/ bebido nada = They haven't had (drunk) anything yet ! - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
I also think that you need the preterite (simple past) fue instead of era ( imperfect) The assumption in your sentence is that they have already made the resolution (completed action ) but they have not completed carrying out thé résolution. It It also - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
sounds better , in my humble opinion with fue but I could be mistaken - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
@ Feliz: Beber a sorbos works fine. Possibly supongo might be followed by the subjunctive, fuera/fuese, but I'm by no means certain. - annierats, Jan 1, 2016
Annie, yes I am not so much disputing that part but the positioning (Word order) of the negative in relation to the word todavía (still) and the tense in the Spanish does not match the English tense in Katy's sentence: They still haven't (past) - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
Supongo doesn't necessarily require the subjunctive. As to the rest I would say. "Todavía no han bebido a sorbos." - Daniela2041, Jan 2, 2016
yes '..nuevo 'fue' beber..' :) - Pablo064, Jan 2, 2016
Thanks everyone. - katydew, Jan 2, 2016

A toast to the new year hopefully it is a lot better then the last year we had. but do not spill this wine it is to expensive to be wasted.

Raj, I would suggest the present indicative for repeated actions "pero siempre bebo contigo ":) - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
I have checked the notes my native Spanish teacher gave me for present indicative. She wrote: Common shares When an action is repeated in the present, past and future, usually the present tense is used to describe it. Examples: - Siempre leo en voz alta. - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
Nunca come verduras. Iam sure that the construction "ir a " does not refer to repeated actions but simply single completed actions! I hope this helps :) - FELIZ77, Jan 1, 2016
Gracias, Feliz :) - Raja-jani, Jan 1, 2016

He, thinking: And how much will she need before I can get her into bed?

She, thinking: And how will I be able to escape from this ageing monster?

Both together, aloud: '' Happy New Year!''

Do you think this is the most romantic movie of all? Also I love the song "As Time Goes By".

I have never heard of "Rohypnol", so you're right. It is not popular. Sheesh! "todavía" is better than "aún" here. - Daniela2041, Jan 2, 2016

Daniela, having read your "todavía" is better than "aún" comment to Ray, I waded through a number of old posts on this topic--still confused. I would be incredibly grateful for your insight on this; I will post a question anew. - jrschenk, Jan 2, 2016
@ Dani rohypnol is what that American comedian was alleged to have used of 52 young women . - ray76, Jan 2, 2016
