My parents indoctrinated me with their beliefs; and despite my efforts, I cannot escape from all of those beliefs.

Indoctrination

It is a very serious task, to educate the children and not indoctrinate them. You have to be liberal.

After returning from being indoctrinated by the United States Marine Corps many years ago, my best friend when I was a teenager told me that Marines don't think, they know.

When I was a teacher, I had a problem with parents who indoctrinated their children with received "wisdom" that contradicted reality.

(I don't mean this as a slur on anyone's sincerely held beliefs. The parents I'm talking about objected to the teaching of the solar system in science class and taught their children that the sun is not a star and the earth is the center of the universe. If there's anyone here who does that, I apologize for any offense, but don't retract my statement.)

Most people know by now I approach the world with a scientific bent, everything is a theory that could be overturned with new data, but the preponderance of evidence for a heliocentric solar system is such that it is hard to believe otherwise. - bosquederoble, May 18, 2015
I could add that I have completely circled the globe once, in a westward direction, but since half was on a ship, and half on a plane, neither of which I controlled, I probably can't use that as evidence the world is a globe either. - bosquederoble, May 18, 2015

When I became an adult and could think for myself, I resented some of my teachers for trying to indoctrinate students to scientific theories that they passed off as facts.

The other word:

Today, when we were at a vineyard, having a picnic, there were some turkeys amongst the grapevines, gobbling, and some in the party said that they would like to gobble them up.

Right. It is a derivitave of the word devout. Or should I just put gobble? - sanlee, May 23, 2015
