Weekend Subjunctive Practice 24: Gustar que
¡Bienvenido a nuestro hilo! Each weekend, Cordobesa and I will present a different topic on everybody’s favorite subject… the subjunctive!
We will give an explanation of the topic, and a couple of examples.
Write sentences at least 5 words long. Write your Spanish sentence, and include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by Cordobesa in the comments section. Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.)
Post pictures if you’d like, and don’t forget to vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the topic as well as the number of votes.

Weekend Subjunctive Practice 24: Gustar que
Explanation:
When describing things that you or others like, using “gustar” is pretty much straightforward:
A mis padres les gusta ir de vacaciones. My parents like to go on vacation.
A mi hermana le gustan mucho los fuegos artificiales. My sister really likes fireworks.
However, when you describe what others do, “gustar que” is used and the verb that follows is conjugated in the subjunctive.
Examples:
A mis padres les gusta que toda la familia vaya junta de vacaciones
My parents like that the entire family goes on vacation together.
A mi hermana le gusta que haya fuegos artificiales todos los años en julio.
My sister likes that there are fireworks every year in July.

A mi amigo le gusta que nuestros otros amigos le visiten la gente en el hospital.
My friend likes that our other friends visit people in the hospital.
A mi no me gustó pasar una semana entera acompañando a mi marido en el hospital pero me gusta que ya le hayan dado de alta.
I didn't like spending a whole week keeping my husband company in hospital, but I do like that they have now discharged him.
Belinda and Frank like that the shops stay open late.
Belinda y Frank les gusta que las tiendas queden abrir tarde.
With corrections: A Belinda y a Frank les gusta que las tiendas se queden abiertas hasta tarde.
Me gusta que haga calor cuando estoy de vacaciones.
I like that it’s hot when I’m on vacation.
A mi hermana le gusta que me guste su colección de muñecas
My sister likes that I like her doll collection
No me gusta que nuestro gobierno no apoye la ciencia porque el progreso científico es esencial para el futuro.
I don't like that our government does not support science, because scientific progress is vital for the future.
¡A mis amigos les gusta mucho que salgamos a cenar fuera en restaurantes diferentes en Madrid todos los sábados, por la noche!
My friends like it a lot that we go out to dinner in different restaurants in Madrid, every Saturday night!
