The idea is to find an English word (synonym –- antonym related to the word –

R A T H E R (adverbio, interjección) and then write a simple sentence in English and Spanish for that word.

Or an unusual use of the word.

Example:

I’d rather not see her.

Preferiría no verla.

I’d rather you didn’t smoke.

Preferiría quePictures are a good idea.

Politicians should concentrate on maximising the wealth of their voters, rather than (instead of) the size of their own pay cheques.

Los políticos deberían concentrarse en la maximización de la riqueza de sus votantes, más que el tamaño de sus propios cheques de pago.

This link might help you find some ideas

We are currently looking for a corrector for the Spanish sentences. If you are interested, please send me a PM. In the meantime, please help each other as you are able.

I think I can manage to be the corrector for the English ?

Please encourage everyone by voting for them and me.wink

This was the previous challenge.

Please note that in English English 'rather' is high praise, often better than just ' good'. - annierats, Feb 4, 2015
Annie - I would say "I saw a rather good film last night, - good film but a sad ending though. - ian-hill, Feb 4, 2015
I have been meaning to see that. :) - rac1, Feb 4, 2015
'Rather a good' is rather a posh word order... Jolly spiffing, what... ;-) - Faldaesque, Feb 4, 2015
You're right Ian. Thanks Falda, I'm rather good at this.. - annierats, Feb 5, 2015
And, yes, it was rather sad, but very thoughtprovoking. - annierats, Feb 5, 2015
Yes, the word 'rather' good implies particularly good :) - FELIZ77, Feb 6, 2015
Promise me that when you visit me here that you will not use it , I would rather that you did not . - ray76, Feb 6, 2015
We use 'rather' but not in that way ejemplo - I would rather have seen Harry Potter' - ray76, Feb 6, 2015

". . . to be a valuable person than a successful one." Just a suggestion. - AnnRon, Feb 4, 2015
'persona valiosa en lugar de ser una exitosa' is good but 'valiosa en vez de ser' is better - Pablo064, Feb 5, 2015

The stew is somewhat spicy, perhaps too spicy for Grandma.

El guiso está algo picante, quizás demasiado picante para la abuela.

jajajj funny... el guiso 'está' picante.. - Pablo064, Feb 5, 2015
Thanks, tiempo. I will never get it straight. "Picante" seems like an attribute of the stew. Do you see it as more of a physical condition? - AnnRon, Feb 7, 2015
El guiso 'es' algo picante is okay but if you add 'quizás demasiado picante para la abuela.' then yes it is 'està' - Pablo064, Feb 7, 2015

Some people in life would rather not know (prefer not to know /face) the truth (reality), whereas others choose to embrace it! wink

¡Algunas personas en la vida preferirían (que?) no enfrentar la realidad, mientras que otras personas eligen abrazarla! wink
