Wow, I've never heard nip used in any of those contexts except for the last one... the air being "nippy". "What's it like outside?" "It's pretty nippy". But the rest, nope lol. Must be British usages. - Hucklebeary, Sep 23, 2014

Cuando me voy nadando en el mar, Wolfie, mi perro, me sigue y me pelizca las piernas para hacer que vuelva a la orrilla. Después de sobrevivir las olas tan altas y las mordiscos del perro tengo que tomar un whisky pequeño.

When I go swimming in the sea, Wolfie, my dog, follows me and nips at my legs to make me return to the shore. After survinging in the big waves with the the dog snapping at my heels I have to have a nip of whisky.

El día hacía estaba un poco de frío, así que decidí calentarme tragando bajando unos pocos sorbos de ron, pero me vio mi esposa, y cortó esa idea de raíz.

The day was a bit nippy, so I decided to warm myself by downing a few nips of rum, but my wife saw me, and nipped that idea in the bud.
