Es un escarmiento merecido, pero no entiendo para nada, cómo pudó entrar el gato en la jaula.
It is a deserved punishment, but I don't understand at all, how could enter the cat into the cage.

Debido a que el gato comería el pájaro si pudiera, uno de los dos tiene que estar en la jaula en cualquier momento dado, y ahora le toca al pájaro para disfrutar volando por el cuarto.
Because the cat would eat the bird if he could, one of the two has to be in the cage at any given time, and now it is the birds turn to enjoy itself flying around the room.

Editor's note/s: Well, the cat has now got his comeuppance /his just desserts, after provoking the canary, and the bird is enjoying (relishing) every minute and rubbing his (the cat's) face in it! Well, they do say that pride goes before the fall!
