Money

The idea is to find an English word or phrase "related" to the word "money" - noun

and

write a simple sentence in English and Spanish for that word..

Example:

I have a lot of coins in my pocket.

Tengo un montón de monedas en mi bolsillo.

Pictures would be nice. - this one is for annierats

Photobucket

Mariana has kindly agreed to be the “official” corrector of the Spanish

I think I can manage being the “unofficial” corrector for the English, je je

Check / Cheque

Cuando en el supermercado, ¿quién todavía paga con un cheque?

When in the supermarket, who still pays with a check?

A debit card is much faster!

¡Una tarjeta de débito es mucho más rápida!

I noticed that "belt" isn't quite wrapped or tightened around the good ol' US of A... where it really needs to be! ;-) - cristalino, Nov 12, 2011
That's because the belt is going to hold some countries together when the U.S.A. bursts its bubble!! - territurtle, Nov 12, 2011

Cuando voy para tomar cerveza con mis amigo, no decimos "dinero" sino "¿cuántas cerveza fichas tienes?"

With Mariana's corrections:

Cuando salgo a tomar cerveza con mis amigo, no decimos "dinero" sino "¿cuántas cerveza fichas tienes?"

When I go out drinking beer with my friends, we don't say "money" we say "how many beer tokens do you have?

In Spanish slang for money is pasta whereas in English it's "bread"

En la jerga española el dinero es * pasta * mientras en inglés es 'pan'

Para algunos, todo lo que les importa es la plata - eso debe de ser muy desagradable manera de vivir!

.

For some people, money is all that matters - it must be a very unpleasant way to live!

I'm skint. The euro has gone down the drain, the pound is worthless and I've only got a few coppers left in my pocket. My cheques are bouncing.

Me han robado la camisa. El euro ha desparecido con las desaguas, el livre no vale nada y tengo solamente algunos centimos en el bolsillo. El banco no está pagando mis cheques.

Spanish translation is somewhat experimental. All help will be much appreciated ( but not paid for) .

dear grandma
