For those of you who have not yet participated in our audio thread this link will give you instructions on how to record and upload an audio file

The aim of this thread is to practice speaking the language which we are learning and be corrected by native speakers. I shall be correcting the English recordings and Julián will correct the Spanish versions.

Please feel free to add a second recording incorporating any suggestions which you are given to show your improvement smile

Read the following information slowly and clearly and upload it along with your name, the country where you live and your level in the language you have recorded in.

Name:

Country of residence:

Level of Spanish:

For those learning Spanish this one is a bit longer so if you know that you're a beginner please just stick to reading out the first paragraph as we don't want to overwork our kind corrector Julián and one paragraph should give you plenty of feedback regarding what you need to work on. smile

How to quit smoking

Strengthen your motivation.

Simply put, if you want to stop smoking, you should, at the very least, have a strong motivation to do so. How can you strengthen your motivation? For one thing, consider how much better off you will be if you quit smoking.

You will save money.

You should get more joy out of life.

Your health may improve.

You will boost your self confidence.

Your family and friends will benefit.

You will please your Creator.

The Bible says, "If somebody could overpower one alone, two together could make a stand against him." (Eccl 4:12) So seek out help, you can win the battle.

(excerpt from the May 2010 'Awake' magazine)

Eek! It has one of the words I have most trouble with - ahorrar! I'll need to have a few attempts at this one I bet! Will get to it soon, thanks! :D - galsally, Jul 22, 2011
Yes there are definitely some tricky words in there - for some reason even in English I felt those words really emphasised my Kiwi accent lol - funny aye! - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 22, 2011
We all should vote for all the answers. I think this is a way to encourage the people to participate on this thread - fjfuentesh, Jul 23, 2011
I agree! I always vote for everyone who joins in, in fact that reminds me, I'm off to vote for any new posts right now je je :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 23, 2011
and I'm going to suggest to Admin that Julián's posts in the audio threads can have a special two for one button for all the hard work that he does here je je :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 23, 2011

¡Guau - your accent is getting so much better Julián - you are definitely losing the Spanish sound to your English je je - awesome. But you know me I'm going to pick a few little things just so you don't get bored je je. Watch your v's - they still have - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 24, 2011
a bit of a 'b' sound. (motivation/very etc) SmOking - just harden that 'o' up a little. Also the 'th' sound remember it is different from just the 't' sound on the end of words - health. And battle, instead of baddle but honestly such a good job!! :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 24, 2011
Very good job, Alex, well done! Kiwi girl has pointed out the small points I noticed already. I'd say Julián's pronunciation of 'battle' is fine in the USA though, isn't it? - galsally, Jul 24, 2011
Thank you so much galsally and Kiwi! :). By the way.. ¿Who is Alex? - fjfuentesh, Jul 24, 2011
Bien hecho Julian! - billygoat, Jul 24, 2011
Just like already been said, just a harder V, you know, so very doesn't sound like "berry" - good job :) - nonombre, Jul 24, 2011

You may notice I say the LL the same way as Y, both sounding like the SH in the word "shoe". That's the way people in Bs As pronounce those letters smile

Really very very good, Alex. You have improved so much! One miniscule point..'Overpower'. Emphasis on 'pow', it could be a little more definite. - galsally, Jul 24, 2011
In Buenos aires, do you also hear 'y' and 'll' pronounced like the French 'j'? (As, somewhat crazily, in English 'treasure'.) - galsally, Jul 24, 2011

You did it good! but now you need to show an increment of your Spanish pronunciation level! :) - fjfuentesh, Jul 23, 2011
I have heard you talking in Spanish and I know that you can do this to much better! :) - fjfuentesh, Jul 23, 2011
Julián - perhaps you could use an idiom here 'it would be good to 'lift the bar' now with your Spanish pronunciation' instead of 'you need to show an increment' - this doesn't quite work in English? Lift the bar probably comes from a sport such as - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 24, 2011
high jump where the competitor who succeeds at jumping over a certain height then has the bar lifted to try to jump even higher :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 24, 2011
Well done Jason :) as Julián said, good job, but I'm sure you're up to his challenge to lift the bar, you will be sounding like a native before you know it if you put the effort in :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 24, 2011

Well done Swampy, good on you :) I think you must have had a very good English teacher as you enunciate very well, when it comes to Spanish though you can relax your mouth a little and let those letters soften up. When Julián posts his Spanish version - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 22, 2011
have a good listen and see if you can hear what I mean. For instance with the 'r's - we make the sound with our teeth just behind our lips but to make the Spanish sound you will need to finish off the sound with your tongue on the roof of your mouth. :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 22, 2011
English was one of the few subjects that I received decent grades in school.Thank you for your help. - swampy, Jul 22, 2011
