Differences between South American/Spanish Spanish

Differences between South American/Spanish Spanish

Hi!

I am in Spain and have just started to learn Spanish. I have noticed differences from the Spanish on this site and the Spanish they use in Spain. Let's say, the Spanish say "las patatas, not las papas", and they pronounce Cs differently. Could someone explain to me the differences between the languages?

Gracias!

Barbara

Hello Kuti, welcome to the Forum.

This is one of those questions that get asked at least once a week, so if wish to do a search, using the "Search" feature in the answers main page, you can find lots of answers.

Here is one thread where this question has been answered fairly thoroughly.

Welcome Barbara and good luck with your Spanish. Don't worry too much about the few different vocabulary words. You will also find differences between neighboring countries, and even between within any country. Just dive in and start learning!
