Advanced Students of Spanish: Translate to Spanish (1)

This exercise is only for advanced students, not easy, trust mewink

You need vocabulary, my student Silvia is pretty advanced, but ...I think this one was too hard for her. Look for vocabulary on the flashcards (three sets) especially created for this student:

4º ESO Lesson 1 to 3

Her teacher is (fortunately rolleyes ) one of a kind, omg, she is not teaching English but how to translate it...and you get one single letter wrong, you can forget about the whole sentencerolleyes

Anyway, this is an excellent exercise for advanced students. I hope you like it.

I will post three sets of sentences in the next few dayswink

En este ejercicio se exige ser lo más exacto posible. No quiero que más o menos se entienda.....no señoreswink sino que sea inmejorablegrin

  1. The man who came yesterday wanted to talk to you.
  2. The house where she was born was built before the war
  3. The book which we lent him is about a German spy.
  4. I haven’t forgotten the day when I told you the truth.
  5. Last week I met a girl whose name means sunset.
  6. The spy moved to Great Britain because he was in danger.
  7. He loves gadgets such as mobile phones.
  8. We had two uninvited guests .

Another chance to give my ego a dressing down. Great, here we go:

El hombre que vino ayer quería hablarte.

La casa donde (ella) nació fue construida antes de la guerra.

El libro que le prestamos trata de un(a) espía alemán(a).

No me he olvidado del día en el cual te dije la verdad.

La semana pasada me encontré con una chica cuya nombre significa "puesta del sol".

El espía se trasladó a Inglaterra porque estaba en peligro.

Le encantan los chismes, como los teléfonos móviles.

Tuvimos dos huéspedes sin invitación.

And just in case you plan to pull a Lazarus... wink I know I can choose different tenses or relative pronouns in many of these, but I hope these will sound natural.

¡Gracias!

Please look at the following personal opinion:

Vikingo, all sentences perfectly intelligible, some minor mistakes (for example: cuyA) , except for the last, we would not say that, sounds really odd.

Jeezle, all sentences perfectly intelligible , some grammar mistakes, except for · se movió a...., moverser is not the same as mudarse or trasladarse.

Izan, all sentences perfectly intelligible, some grammar mistakes, except for : No se me olvidé el día , the subject is the day...so that would be very confusing.

Margaret, all sentences perfectly intelligible, some grammar mistakes.

Hecho, I cannot judge anything without correct spelling, if the sentences had been spoken, always supposing you are using the correct pronunciation, the sentences would have been correct, some grammar mistakes. But, mudo means dumb, mudó means to move...these mistakes are important.

Feliz, most sentences perfectly intelligible, except for 3 (wrong subject), 5 several grammar mistakes, too confusing; the other sentences have mistakes, but they can be understoodwink

Ashis, most sentences perfectly intelligible, except for 4 and 5 , wrong subject, and 8, cannot be understood. Good attempt, your native language is not English, so this is a good trywink

Goldie, all sentences perfectly intelligible, you used the wrong number agreement here: Le encanta los artilugios , but this could be understoodwink some grammar mistakes.

Sally, all sentences perfectly intelligible, except for the last, huepedes...hmmm, and no invitados...sounds strange. Some grammar mistakes.

Lorenzo. all sentences perfectly intelligible except for movió a...same as Jeezle. Some grammar mistakes.

Goyo, all sentences perfectly intelligible, except for La semana pasada conozco which is it past or present , Le encantan los artilugios mas que..wrong translation.

Dew, most sentences perfectly intelligible, except for 2, subject is unclear, 3, el libro en cual...in which??, and last, indeseado is too strong here. Some grammar mistakes

Dean, all sentences perfectly intelligible, grammar mistakeswink

Luz, all sentences perfectly intelligible, except for the last two, unos , we would understand only mobiles here, and the last cannot be understood, rest of the sentences, grammar mistakeswink

Luciente, all sentences perfectly intelligible, except for Le encantan artilugios , you just need an article here. Last sentence wrong tense, sounds like you have them all the time. Rest, some grammar mistakes.

Mayodude, most sentences intelligible, except ella fue nacida, direct translation from English, ha olvidado el día, wrong subject, rest grammar mistakes and unforgivable: subject pronouns!!!

Have a look at the same personal opinion once I correct the second thread, please click on "watch this thread" and leave a comment, thanksgrin
