For me, the easiest way (if you're using a desktop computer with number keys on the right side of the keyboard, not along the top) is the following:
é = hold down Alt, push 130, then lift Alt
á = Alt 160
í = Alt 161
ó = Alt 162
ú = Alt 163
ñ = Alt 164
Ñ = Alt 165
¿ (upside down?)= Alt 168
ü = Alt 129
¡ (upside down !)= Alt 173
Hope that helps!
Check out Vikingos program here. I've been using it for months and think it's great.
The best solution is to switch your keyboard to the English-US international from the English-US using your control panel.
This link test explains how to do it in the comments under my answer by qfreed. He has a newer thread that even gives a nice picture of the layout, but I can't find it right now.
With this layout a ' followed by the vowel leads to an accent over the vowel, and the right alt pressed at the same time as an n leads to a ñ. The only thing you lose is a delay in the ' and " keys- the characters do not show up until you press an additional key (such as a space). You can switch to a Spanish keyboard if you can deal with more radical changes- but this one is so subtle that my wife has not even noticed I did it, and yet I can fairly easily type what I need to.
I hope you are doing well today. You can change your settings so you can access the accents marks more easily.

If you have the number pad on the right, you can enter codes. After you do it enough you'll know them. Here's the list http://www.spanishnewyork.com/spanish-characters.html. Also, you can set the language in word by clicking the globe on the review tab so the spell check will automatically find missing accents (to save some time). You should still know where they go though because it may miss words that are identical other than the accent.
