Incredibly easy in Spanish! Unlike English, where you always have to guess, Spanish has consistent rules for pronunciation.

There are rules for which syllable gets the emphasis and a warning sign when there is an exception! link text

In English we call them accent marks, in Spanish they use the words tilde and accento. Either word, it shows when to stress a syllable in a word that doesn't follow the usual rules.

The pronunciation of the letters in words is effected somewhat by region so when learning how a letter is pronounced also pay attention to where the letter is pronounced that way.
