I don't really know how effective that kind of memorization is, but I have a few of criticisms about the method:
- Words out of context are forgotten much more easily than when learnt in context.
- Without the context, many word are going to be used incorrectly (eg. you don't say a narrow schedule, but a tight schedule).
- The pictures may be very ingenious, but the pronunciation you will learn with this method is going to be unacceptably different from the correct one, eg. "pour" in English does not sound like "por" in Spanish at all!
- I've seen several of the pictures, covering the real Spanish word, and with some of them, after reading them aloud a few times, I couldn't even recognize the Spanish word. Maybe I just lack imagination.
I am personally not convinced.
