This is very different from a lawnmower or corta césped. Weedwhacker is a trade name, and although that is what these machines are commonly called, their official name is string (or line) trimmer. Some of the words used for this in Spanish are recortadora, orilladora, bordeadora, and cortadora de malezas.

Yes, that is another word that is used, but a desbrozadora also comes in forms that would not be called a Weedwhacker in English.

En español como "desbrozadora" se conoce a una máquina que consiste en un motor y un hierro alargado, donde tiene la hélice, con una correa se coloca al hombro y se usa para cortar cesped, hierba, matojos, etc... que hay en lugares generalmente de díficil acceso; tambien se le llama así a un artilugio que se acopla a un tractor y se usa para la misma función.
Si con Weed whacker se refiere a la máquina, la palabra más empleada es Desbrozadora.
