Permalink, if you want to say I am tired you have to say tengo sueño or estoy cansada, not yo soy cansada. Yo soy expresses a different thing. It is the wrong form of to be.

Past Perfect: you are talking about a past action within a time snap that is not over (today).
Past is not wrong buy sounds better past perfect.
