I can't find the Spanish for this species of bird, as in The Scarlet Ibis.

It is the same in English and Spanish. It comes from Greek. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threskiornithinae

Thank you! That's a handy thing to know--I'm preparing classes on ecology, in Spanish, and looking into Jewish ecological ethics, ...it is forbidden to eat ibis in the Jewish scriptures, among other waterbirds and birds of prey, ..."ciguenyas" and "garzas", too, ...

I suppose that if pigs could fly, and stayed near water, or hunted, or both, they would be doubly or triply unkosher.
