People of the twenties used iceboxes, as jubilado said. Delivery men brought blocks of ice door to door to refill the ice compartment. I grew up hearing my older relatives talk about the days of iceboxes and the iceman, who drove a horse-drawn ice wagon. I've never heard of a freezebox. People in the twenties didn't have electric freezers or refrigerators. Many places still didn't have electricity at all.

I imagine that the word in Spanish was "nevera," the same as the word for "refrigerator," but I don't know for sure.

JulianChivi said it, not me. I'm afraid this thread leaves me rather cold. That said, when I was a kid we used the word "icebox" a lot. - Jubilado, Feb 28, 2016
You must be right! The twenties are a long time ago! Frigorífico is common usage in Andalucia, anyway. It is very hard to say! - annierats, Feb 28, 2016
It WAS Julian. I thought I scrolled up to check, but apparently not. - AnnRon, Feb 28, 2016

@ jtaniel and jubilado: I have never heard of "freezebox" but my guess is that it´s the same as "ice box", an old expression for "refrigerator" that was used before electric refrigerators were popular: hielera / nevera, which these days is commonly referred to as "cooler" or "ice bucket", although some older people still use these words for a common refrigerator.

The picture shows a chest-freezer. Congelador horizontal. This may, or may not be what you are looking for. A firge, in Spain is usually a ' frigorífico'. The people of the '20's would be : La gente de los años veinte', I think.

I don't see the word freezebox in any dictionary of English.

By "people of the 20s" do you mean people who lived in the 1920s?

Please clarify your question and complete your profile.

"Much Ado about Freezebox" Eh? - Jubilado, Feb 27, 2016
Yes, he means people who lived in the 20's, and possibly fridge or deepfreeze of the old kind, I think. - annierats, Feb 27, 2016
"People of the 20s..." doesn't sound natural to me. "In the 20s, people..." sounds much moreso. Perhaps English is not _Cooper_'s native tongue. - jtaniel, Feb 28, 2016
And I don't know what language "////////howw///////////" is. - jtaniel, Feb 28, 2016
