Picture of the day: Determination

Hello Everybody! Welcome to the Picture of the Day!

This is a game where we can practice our Spanish and English, but still have fun at the same time!

The rules are very simple and remain more or less exactly as RelaxingCup designed them and H C A student continued.

  • Post your comments/titles/captions to this picture (both in Spanish and English) and vote for the responses you like. The best answer will be chosen soon on the basis of the greatest number of votes as well as the language accuracy.

  • Pon tu comentario/ título/ pie de foto a esta imagen (ambos en español y inglés) y vota por las respuestas que te gusten. La mejor respuesta será seleccionada mañana, tanto por la cantidad de votos como por la corrección en el uso del idioma.

  • Please, give everyone a chance and only post more or less one caption and no photos.

  • Por favor, deja que todos tengan una oportunidad y pon más o menos una respuesta, sin fotos.

.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile

.Please help each other with your English/Spanish sentences. And above all, have fun!

• ¿Qué se necesita? Necesitarás flexibilidad, coordinación y atrapar el ritmo. Tú los tienes: paciencia y adelante con la práctica, ya podrás.

• What is needed? You’ll need flexibility, coordination and a sense of rhythm. You have them; have patience and go on with your practice. You’ll be able to do it later.

"to catch" instead of just "catch" This one is a verb in the infinitive, and the English infinitive is "to catch" The others (flexibility & coordination) are nouns so they are fine. Or you could change "to catch" into a noun phrase..."a sense of rhythm" - DilKen, Jul 9, 2015
**have** patience and go on (no hyphen) with your practice. You'll be able **to do it** later. - DilKen, Jul 9, 2015
Soybeba: in my first suggestion, I much prefer using the noun phrase instead of the infinitive in English. Mixing nouns and verbs in a phrase joined by conjunctions is awkward. - DilKen, Jul 9, 2015
Yes, Beba. Ken's suggestions are very good :) - sanlee, Jul 9, 2015
Que lastima que no hay feriado puente Beba :D - Pablo064, Jul 9, 2015
Gracias, kenhuizenga. Espero no haber omitido ninguna. - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015
Sí, ya las hice, Sandy: lo que pasa es que hoy tengo que hacer, y vengo en forma esporádica. :-) - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015
Ya lo creo, Pablo064, especialmente porque me salvaría de estudiar para mi clase de mañana, y a esta altura se vuelve difícil (más que cuando era jovencita). :-)) - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015
Almost just delete "to catch the" - DilKen, Jul 9, 2015
¿lo borro todo? - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015
quiero decir "atrapar el ritmo" ¿no sería "to catch the rhythm"? - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015
En vez de "to catch the rhythnm" pon " a sense of rhythm" y suena mejor. - sanlee, Jul 9, 2015
Pero en realidad es "to catch the rhythm" pero necesita ser en una forma de sustantivo - sanlee, Jul 9, 2015
en la traducción de inglés. Es un trabajo bueno, Beba - sanlee, Jul 9, 2015
Gracias, Sandy, pero me deprimió, la gramática no es lo mío (ya no sé qué es lo mío, pero no importa, es un detalle, nomás). [nomás es correcto, solo que es un localismo]. ;-D - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015

No puns necessary. The determination in her face is pure human.

La pequeña Elaine Benes aprende a bailar.

Little Elaine Benes learns to dance.

(This one really needs a picture, but since it's against the rules of the thread, here's a link that might reveal the relevance of my caption. Se refiere a un personaje de la comedia de televisión Seinfeld.

Aunque siempre ensoñó con ser bailarina, sus padres la guiaron a una carrera en la de ingeniería, y terminó ganando una vida muy cómoda.

Although she always dreamed of being a dancer, her parents guided her to a career in engineering, and she ended up earning a very comfortable living.

(I wanted to take the other tact, but everyone already did it)

..carrera 'de' ingeniería..I think that 'ensoñar' in this contexts would be exclusively used in literature :) - Pablo064, Jul 9, 2015
Gracias, Pablo.- in this context, (you can say in these contexts, but I only provided one, you can also say in this type of context) :) - bosquederoble, Jul 9, 2015
Bosque: aunque sería correcto, lo único usado de "ensoñar" es la palabra "ensoñación", y sólo en poemas antiguos, lo normal sería decir "soñó". Pero si quieres ser poético, no te criticaré. :-)) - Soybeba, Jul 9, 2015
Lo he cambiado, gracias. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 9, 2015
that s was unintentionally, yep 'in these types of contexts' would have been better, it is what I really meant thank you!!! - Pablo064, Jul 9, 2015
"that was unintentional" or "that was done unintentionally" (or "I did that unintentionally"). :) - bosquederoble, Jul 9, 2015

La culpa es del hula-hoop: ese último modelo tiene velocidades como los automóviles y ha entrado la marcha atrás.

Blame it on the hula-hoop: this latest model has a gearshift as cars do and it has gone into reverse.

Hi Ana, Hula hoop o hula hula?? ver https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hula_hoop...(pero no estoy segura acerca de hulla-hoop) Maybe you could also say, "It's the hula hoops fault?? What do other people think? - sanlee, Jul 9, 2015
Whoops, ...hula hoop's fault... :)))) - sanlee, Jul 9, 2015
Either: "this latest model has A gearshift as cars DO" or "this latest model has A gearshift LIKE cars" - DilKen, Jul 9, 2015
