"Gustar" has its own special habits,

" Gusta" would seem correct to me as you are doing the liking of someone.

I too am a learner, so lets see what others say.

Look at my entry in La Palabra del Dia - desordenado I made the subject / object mistake and only just found it myself. Funny, eh? - Jubilado, Nov 14, 2014

'Verbs like gustar' are a section apart when it comes to Spanish grammar.

The list includes 'disgustar, encantar, importar, quedar, faltar, caer bien/mal & doler'.

The best way to understand 'gustar' is not to think of it as 'like' but as 'is appealing to'. Now you see that the person, animal or thing that is appealing is the subject, and the verb is conjugated accordingly. (So you simply use yo, tú, él, ella, usted, nosotros/as, vosotros/as & ustedes) The person, animal or thing it is appealing to is then of course the object(, referred to with (A mí) me, (A ti) te, (A él/ella/usted) le, (A nosotros/as) nos, (A vosotros/as) os, (A ellos/ellas/ustedes) les) directly befóre the verb, and usually a more specific reference later on in the sentence, f.e. 'los trabajadores' or 'María y Juan'. smile

Let's see how that works. The part between brackets is optional.

(A mí) me gusta el perro. = To me is appealing the dog = The dog appeals to me = I like the dog.

(A él) le gustas tú. = To him is appealing you = You appeal to him = He likes you

(A nosotros) nos gustan los gatos. = To us is appealing (the) cats = (The) cats appeal to us = We like (the) cats

Now, say that you want to say you like to do something. In this case you ALWAYS use verbs like gustar in the singular form. Let's try that.

(A ellos) les gusta nadar. = To them is appealing swimming = Swimming appeals to them = They like to swim

(A mí) me gusta dibujar. = To me is appealing drawing = Drawing is appealing to me = I like to draw

Easy, right? :D

The other verbs I mentioned work the same way: '(A mí) me encanta leer.' = I love to read. '(A mí) me importan mucho las obras de beneficencia. = Charity works are important to me. Tenemos los platos, y la comida, nos faltan los cubiertos y los vasos. - Suzanne_Romijnders, Nov 14, 2014
= We have the plates and the food, we miss the cutlery and the glasses. ¡Te queda bien ese vestido! = That dress looks good on you! Me duele la cabeza. = My head hurts. Él me cae muy bien. = I like him a lot. - Suzanne_Romijnders, Nov 14, 2014
