Would you say "Ah, yo sé donde esa tienda es." or would you say "Ah, yo conozco donde esa tienda es."

"Ah, sé dónde está esa tienda." seems to me the correct permutation.

1) You don't need to use 'yo' since sé implies first person knowledge.

2) I am not positive on the accent on top of the 'donde', but I think it should go there since the clause is, uh, question-y. Like, you could get rid of 'sé' and move stuff around to get "¿dónde está esa tienda?".

3) Estar is to be used instead of Ser because this refers to the location of an establishment, not an event.

As for your answers and why they are wrong:

"Ah, yo sé donde esa tienda es."

1) Unnecessary yo

2) Use of Ser implying that the tienda is an event (since use of Ser with location is confined to events and such).

"Ah, yo conozco donde esa tienda es."

1) All of the above, more or less

2) You can't 'conocer' the knowledge of where something is. You can only 'saber' knowledge.

Hello Sodzee,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

You asked:

How would you translate this to Spanish? "Ah, I know where that store is." Would you say "Ah, yo sé donde esa tienda es." or would you say "Ah, yo conozco donde esa tienda es."

You would say: ¡Ah! Sé dónde está esa tienda. = I know where that store (shop) is

Grammar points:

1 You don't need to use the personal pronoun 'yo' in your sentence because the verb saber is already conjugated to the 1st person singular and could therefore only refer to that particular person!

2 Generally speaking, you would use the verb saber when talking about knowing a fact/or to know how to do something

eg Sabe nadar = He knows how to swim /He can swm

You would use conocer if you were talking about a person or a place eg ¿Conoces bien Madrid? =Do you know Madrid well?

3 When referring to the location or position of a person or object you would use the verb estar not ser so in your sentence you would use dónde está esa tienda = where that store is

I hope this helps smile

Corrijan mi español, por favor smile

Good answer. I don't think the "Ah" was exclamatory, but it would make more sense that way. - Helado_eclectico, Sep 12, 2014
Thanks, Helado, :) I could see no other purpose in the use of ah here, - FELIZ77, Sep 12, 2014
