When you look up the word favorite in SpanishDict it mentions the United States in parenthesis which I believe implies it is popular here, but what about other parts of the world? How do they typically describe something they favor? Or is it more-universal than I think?

For example: favorite song, book, meal, actor, etc.

¡Hola!, jrschenk:

What you are seeing is only a reference to the US spelling of the word. In those countries that still adhere to British spelling, the same word exists and is used as the same way as the US but outside the US it is spelt "favoUrite".

I think the two more common ways are "favorito" and "preferido".

¡Buen día!

I entered favorite (in English) in the "Translate" function above, and it gave me several Spanish synonyms. Please do the same. Good luck!

Gracias. I did that, but that didn't give me a sense of whether the words are popular to use in everyday speech. You are correct, and I appreciate your help. - jrschenk, May 15, 2014
