The minute I saw her with that handsome new gymnastics coach, I knew she was going to lose her head.

El momento en que la vi con ese guapo nuevo entrenador de gimnasia, sabía que iba a perder su cabeza.

Hi AnnRon. I would say: "Desde el momento en que la vi [...], supe que...". Un saludo! - RelaxingCup, Nov 22, 2013
:-) - pmikan-pam, Nov 22, 2013
I didn't use "supe" because I thought it meant "found out." No? - AnnRon, Nov 22, 2013
You should use "sabía" if you already knew before you saw her couch and "supe" if the fact of seeing him made you know. - RelaxingCup, Nov 22, 2013
Ah! Got it. Thanks! - AnnRon, Nov 23, 2013

Brings a whole new meaning to "putting your foot in your mouth". Le da nuevo sentido a "Ponerse el pie en la boca".

This extremely rare medical condition leaves the patient with a foot where their head would normally reside.

Este extremadamente rara condición médica deja al paciente con un pie donde normalmente residiría su cabeza.

"that" is a demonstrative pronoun in this case. Replace "se que" for the corresponding demonstrative pronoun (masculine/feminine/singular/plural) - Sra_Margarita, Nov 22, 2013

Apparently, the Chinese are now breeding human-turtle hybrids to better compete in the olympics just in case they introduce the limbo as a sport.

Al paracer, ahora los chinos crían híbridos humano-tortuga para competir mejor en los olímpicos en caso de que se introdujera introduzco ¨el limbo¨ como deporte..

You're quite inspired tonight! - annierats, Nov 23, 2013
"ahora los chinos crían" or "están criando" + "híbridos humano-tortuga [...] en caso de que se introduzca (subjunctive present) el limbo como deporte". Also in passive: "en caso de que el limbo sea introducido como deporte". - RelaxingCup, Nov 24, 2013
"se introdujera" would fit better if you present it like less likely to happen. As in: "... en los olímpicos por si acaso se introdujera el limbo..." Un saludo. - RelaxingCup, Nov 24, 2013
Summing up: very good answer! - RelaxingCup, Nov 24, 2013
Thanks for the improvements RC. Subjunctive is getting easier, but I still struggle (obviously) with past vs present subjunctive, since the past is used not only to signify past, but also just increased doubt. - rogspax, Nov 24, 2013
So, with enough doubt, could fuera introducido also be used, in place of sea introducido. Now I need to go read about "por si acaso". It is new to me. - rogspax, Nov 24, 2013

dummy = "maniquí" (masculine word) but in this case of joke and irreal supposition you can say "una maniquí" (you will be giving the dummy a gender). - RelaxingCup, Nov 23, 2013
My suggestion: "creo que es el fantasma de un(a) maniquí de pruebas." :) - RelaxingCup, Nov 23, 2013
RC - "unreal supposition" :) - ian-hill, Nov 23, 2013
Thanks Ian. :) - RelaxingCup, Nov 23, 2013
Actually, I, and all my grammar teachers from German, Swedish, Finnish, and Spanish, would have used irreal. Unreal sounds understandable, but like something a foreigner would say (Fair enough, Ian is one) :) - rogspax, Nov 23, 2013
Como soy Vikinga puedo decir sureal. - annierats, Nov 23, 2013
Gracias, Relaxing. Siento que no pueda pensar en un chiste mejor. - annierats, Nov 23, 2013
It seems good enough. And note, I wasn´t claiming that Swedes say literally, irreal, but rather than grammar books about those languages, in English, use the word irreal. - rogspax, Nov 23, 2013
"Surreal" may be better - but "irreal" = "unreal" - ian-hill, Nov 23, 2013
Thanks everybody. :) - RelaxingCup, Nov 24, 2013
