The poor do not know that their function in life is to exercise our generosity.

Jean- Paul Sartre .

Please correct my statement.

Very Sartre, but also an element of Buddha How does this sit in todays world?

On the contrary diagonx...I too am being realistic. There are those that lean to the left and those that lean to the right. I like to debate, but I try not to judge and I don't hold a grudge. - 0095ca4c, Jun 7, 2013

That is fine, politics are made to inflame passions, and create difference, it's hard to have a "neutral" stand, its dialectic could barely work neutrally - diagonx, Jun 7, 2013
What else could be expected from Sartre? - diagonx, Jun 7, 2013
Absolutely nothing...at least we agree on something. - 0095ca4c, Jun 7, 2013
Lovingkindness and compassion has everything to do with politics , with those two gems in your backpack you can traverse either side of the road and dispense them equally to left and right.. - ray76, Jun 7, 2013
Sartre was a catalyst for a mind change in a troubled period , he set a flame which helped to galvanise a movement which freed many from being shackled by Bourgeois values. - ray76, Jun 7, 2013

There is another type of poverty, the poverty of spirit, which opens the kingdom of God. Only humility opens this great gift. It is often grasped by the poor, whose very nature understands by the metaphor of life, that all are equally poor compared to the kingdom of eternity.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

It's a very deep critique of the morals of a bourgeois society, and how it satisfies its petty arrogant spirit by spreading the doctrine of "kindness of the heart" ideology; not excluded of traditional Judeo-Christian-Capistalistic "moral values"; of those who, for the most part, have none whatsoever.

We continue to learn life lessons every day through Karma (experience of both sides). An example is how we treat others more or less fortunate than us. Our generosity is how we serve others.

Very true ,the compassion that we give will mirror the truth of our being , and create the Karma for what is to come. - ray76, Jun 6, 2013
I hope you are right ray. So far I don't see any good Karma coming their way. - 0095ca4c, Jun 6, 2013
good one! - chellapadua, Jun 6, 2013
Karma is neither good nor bad. Karma is the experience of both sides. What they experience, you will experience, or already have in another lifetime. - 0083f5dc, Jun 6, 2013
Ok, forget the karma...a little thanks would go a long way instead of a slap in the face. - 0095ca4c, Jun 7, 2013
I know what you mean Margherite, but if we do something in order to be thanked it negates the generosity, remember the book by Rand, " The Fountainhead" the philosophy was to do a good deed but never divulge who did it. - ray76, Jun 7, 2013

If we see a need we need to help, sometimes helping them with more than food. Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, give him a net he will feed himself for life.

- EugenioCosta, Jun 7, 2013
"you have to have money to make money" - absolutely an untruth! I lived on 'cup-a-soup' three times a day in order to start a small business. I had no money, I was P O O R! I am not rich now, but I don't have to eat any more cup-a -soup! - 0095ca4c, Jun 7, 2013

I don't think so. Fishermen can work to catch the fish and then sell lthem for a profit in order to buy necessities that they need. A little more work and a little less entitlement would go a long way in solving economic problems! Now my knickers are in . - 0095ca4c, Jun 6, 2013
that proverbial knot. I don't have a rash though so I guess I can be thankful for that. - 0095ca4c, Jun 6, 2013
"Fishermen can work to catch the fish and then sell lthem for a profit in order to buy necessities that they need". A likely story. - EugenioCosta, Jun 6, 2013
At any rate, no Capitalist, nor any amount of money, ever taught any fisherfolk to fish. So the whole little topos is absurd. - EugenioCosta, Jun 6, 2013
Nowdays even less likely, as in the Gulf, where British Petroleum can destroy a whole industry and the Gulf, and get off with a slap on the wrist. - EugenioCosta, Jun 6, 2013
Meanwhile the Capitalists are patenting--that is, turning into private property--the genetic material of the planet, all for their own profit. - EugenioCosta, Jun 6, 2013
Another example is Somalia--where hi-tech Capitalist fishing vessels plundered the defenseless coast's fisheries for profit, producing--that's right--pirates, And it is the pirates that are supposed to be criminals? - EugenioCosta, Jun 6, 2013
Absurd? For your ilk perhaps. Necessity is the mother of invention? A hungry man soon learns how to fish and he soons learns that an excess of fish can buy clothing for his children. - 0095ca4c, Jun 6, 2013
Period after invention. The question mark was a typo. It's obvious that everyone would know that without my asking. - 0095ca4c, Jun 6, 2013
"A hungry man soon learns how to fish and he soons learns that an excess of fish can buy clothing for his children."
When you have no sensible come back, everything is funny to you hon. I don't see the humour in learning how to feed yourself and your children. It's a much better way of life than expecting a handout when you are able bodied. - 0095ca4c, Jun 6, 2013
- EugenioCosta, Jun 6, 2013
