enterrar (en-teh-rrarr')

verb (to bury; to forget)

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here; most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Enterraron el ataúd un día triste y lluvioso.

  • They buried the coffin on a sad and rainy day.*

2. Si entierras las penas, nunca las podrás dejar atrás.

  • If you bury your sorrows, you'll never be able to leave them behind you.*

Rac1 will return to continue ¨La Palabra del Día¨. She is caring for some business over the next few weeks and does not have internet access.

I may be wrong but I would have used "enterraras" and "podrías", especially after beginning with "Si". - Eddy, Aug 3, 2012
Hola Eddy, I sent a message thru feedback as I got the examples from the website. I'm curious to know myself! Muchas gracias! - bandit51jd, Aug 3, 2012

Olvídate de la envidia. La envidia es perdida de tiempo. Tú ya tienes todo lo que necesitas. Tal vez no es demasiado, pero muchos otros tienen mucho menos.

Forget about envy. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. Maybe it is not too much, but many others have much less.

The English sentence is wonderful! Some sometimes for ¨Envy is wasting of time¨.... - bandit51jd, Aug 3, 2012
¨Envy is a waste of time¨. ¨A suggestion, not some sometimes¨. Lo siento! - bandit51jd, Aug 3, 2012
Hola Iana. Problablemente (ya que el uso que quieres dar a "enterrar" es figurado) quedaría mejor con (a) "Sepulta la envidia" (b) "Olvídate de la envidia". - -cae-, Aug 3, 2012

A veces es necesario enterrar el pasado y seguir adelante. Tal vez tienes cicatrices, pero hay esperanza.

Sometimes it's necessary to bury the past and move forward. You may have scars, but there is hope.

Time kills sorrow , nothing is eternal but sometimes I think ,that even time can't bury wounds in our heart. Tiempo mata dolor, nada es eterno, pero a veces , creo que el tiempo transcurrido no puede enterrar las heridas de nuestro corazón.

Let's hope he remembers where he buried that bone before he 's ruined the whole garden.

En Ghana, se celebra la vida de sus muertos queridos con ataúdes tallados y pintados. Estos ataúdes se elaboran tan destriezamente, en una manera tan original y feliz que me parece una lastima que se tienen que les enterren.

In Ghana, they celebrate the lives of their dearly departed with carved and painted coffins. These coffins are worked with such skill, and reflect such originality and joy that it seems a shame to have to bury them.
