¡Buenos días! I am having problems entering lists in the forum (ouch) ... perhaps it is my browser (Firefox), but ...
1. If I enter numbered items and then split them with carriage returns
2. List item 3. The numbers get wonked up
4. List item 5. Extra item lines are inserted
6. Trying to correct them is unsuccessful.
7. And I have to fight to get the "listing" to stop. This did not formerly occur; it seems to be a new phenomenon. I am also getting cut&paste; yellow blocks dropped on top of the text (not off to the side or somewhere else innocuous - right on top of the text, making it impossible to tell what is under them). I am, to be sure, a fussy old lady, but text entry really should not be such a problem. sniffle, snivel, sob!

My work around has always been to put parenthesis around my numbers to prevent the script from trying to make the list.

(1) List item

(2) List item

(3) list item

.

But you also gotta double space betwixt the items.

  • As the eskimo said, "Good idea!" Muchas gracias! Todo facile!! 8-> - Lector_Const Feb 14, 2012 flag

  • This was firefox. I don't have Chrome. Sorry. - pesta Feb 14, 2012 flag
  • It looks like some kind of recursive script that's not quite right...but only in Chrome??? How odd. - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag
  • But, no, Lector says she is using FF. So, the odd thing is that it doesn't affect you, then. :/ - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag
  • No...I just tried FF and both list items and images work correctly in that browser. - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag
  • I believe that straight list entry might work, but like many others, I tend to try to convert text to a list after entering it & then it's either a case of delete & re-enter it all or go nuts - Lector_Const Feb 14, 2012 flag

Google Chrome here...

  1. blah blah blah (enter) 1.
  2. List item1.

....and if I hit enter after each list item it just compounds the strangeness...

  1. blah blah blah (enter)
    1. List item1. (enter)
    1. List item2. (enter)
  2. List item4.

1.2.4.

  • But this has been a longstanding issue...old site, new...the reply box has always been a little quirky. - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag

It does something similar with images using the image button...first one works okay...second one goes bonks (if done right in a row)...

  • You can click "edit" to see the code. - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag
  • And keep in mind, I only tried to add two images...not four. - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag

I use Chrome browser, and I've noticed similar issues when posting more than one link. I typically just edit it manually to do what I want. I'll give the list a try here, and we'll see what happens.

  1. List item
    1. List item1.
    1. List item2.
  2. List item4.

Yep, doesn't work right.

For what it's worth, Firefox and IE do not seem to have this strange problem.

This behavior is being handled by browser scripting. For what it's worth, both the type of browser, and the version of that browser, are important to know. And SpanishDict has to decide which versions of which browsers they will support. That implies agreement on which they won't support, of course. They should test the behavior on all supported versions. The job isn't finished, yet.

  • I have found Chrome to be quite wonky...especially with my yahoo acct...unfortunately I have only a half gig of ram and Chrome seems to handle memory nicely while FF brings my pc to standstill if i have more than one or two tabs open. - webdunce Feb 14, 2012 flag
