The New System
This post is to put my general thoughts and observations regarding the new operating system and the demise of the former. I do not want to enter into discussions on individual points which is why I have also closed it.
I am amazed at some of the harsh and even rude comments that have been levelled towards Christopher because of the introduction of a new Spanishdict format. This is a business and businesses have to earn revenue in order to survive. The difference here is that the generation of company revenue allows this site to be totally free of charge to members.
I remember when the erstwhile Spanishdict appeared, I and a large number of other members didnt like it. We were conversant with its predecessor and we now had to learn a completely new system. And when reputation points, badges and editing facilities appeared I personally thought it was adding insult to injury. Plus the fact there were the inevitable bugs and faults which had to be ironed out which surprisingly enough get done quicker when an operating system is in use. Yet here I am, just as before, lamenting the passing of something I didnt particularly like when it was first introduced.
What I am sure about is that like Christopher, I am a business man and run my company to earn profits. There is no way would I spend money just to make drastic changes to the operation of my business for changes sake. It is for this reason that I am positive that Christopher has expended a considerable amount of money making these changes to the site for the its general improvement. We do not know what additions are coming in the future which the old system may or may not not have been able to accommodate.
Fine, Christopher has said there is no going back. I think the introduction of the new system could have been better announced and implemented but I also think there was no way the two systems could have run side by side and effectively iron out any problems. I firmly believe this because I was constantly using the old system along with the majority of the members. For my part I will be reporting all the faults that I find and suggest other members do the same.
