Some suggestions for you that are very regional involve using perhaps the type of favorite beer. He says I'm going for a beer .You say O.k." Bud" .(short for budweiser) or "Michelle Lob "( Michelob) .Make it personal and it's less offensive and more fun.Get creative.Buena suerte.
Here, in Scotland, we'd just call him normal.
Around he we call him a "Joe six pack".
Habitual beer drinkers often have a pot belly or beer gut but I somehow don't imagine they would take kindly to being described by that part of their anatomy hahahha

I am not aware of any slang words for beer drinker in England I occasionally have (drink)a lager or a shandy (beer mixed with lemonade el shandy/una clara)

The term "lush" is used a lot, but it refers to somebody that drinks a lot of any type of alcohol.
