Skype requirements

Can someone give me a quick description of the Skype aspect of the site? Equipment necessary. Software. Scheduling. Expectations. And whatever else I might need to know.

I'm running on Windows XP and I use IE or Firefox.

Someone is on Skype almost anytime. It is free for Skype to Skype calls. We do have organized chats, but if you leave your Skype light on are likely to get practice everyday. Here is the link to download Skype.get skype Pick your computer (mac, PC, or other) and just download it. There are some instructional videos you can watch. I am not very good with computers and I can use Skype without a problem.

If you are interested in using Skype with SD, you can send your Skype nickname to Heidita. Click on the members list on the bottom bar. She is the first name on the upper left. Click on her name to locate her PM box and send her your Skype nickname and a little information about yourself. Good luck and I hope to see you on Skype soon.

Nah, call her to make sure your Skype is woking. Preferably at 3:00 a.m. Madrid time. - 0074b507, Jun 27, 2011
That way you should hear some interesting Spanish that you won't learn in the Chat. - 0074b507, Jun 27, 2011

A headset (they ask that you do not use a web cam or desktop microphone as it picks up background noises and feedback if you are using your speakers to listen).

A Skype account.

Permission to attend from Her Exalted Highness, Magnificent Ruler of all things SpanishDict. (Heidita)

But that is only if you wish to attend the weekly chats. You can, of course, Skype call anyone, anytime, that it is convenient as long as the other member will answer your call. Don't forget that we are all in different time zones.

Your OS, hardware, configurations are matters pertaining to Skype. I would suggest that you check their website to see what is needed. I used to make calls to Sweden using XP, so I don't think that the requirements are very high.

When you write something like this, it would help to state your computer operating system, version, etc. Thanks :) - pesta, Jun 27, 2011

Jeezzle; I have had to uninstall and download another one three times. They work for a while, then they don't.

Babs: Skype is software. All you need is an internet connection. If you have DSL you will be fine. I don't, so during the busiest times, I can't always maintain my connection.
