Introduce Yourself

Welcome to the first interactive audio thread here on Spanish Dict!

This is designed to help both English and Spanish speakers with their pronunciation as well a nice way for all of our members from around the world to introduce themselves.

It will take a little effort as you will need to make a voice recording with a program such as 'Windows Sound Recorder' (on a PC) or 'Garage Band' (on a Mac) or Quick Time.

The file will then need to be uploaded to the net and linked back to this thread (see instructions in my post on how to do this)

Post the link to this thread for all to enjoy smile

When you post your link please do it in this manner:

Name -

Native Language -

Recording in English

or

Recording in Spanish

(then link your audio file) smile

Julián has kindly agreed to moderate and help listen to and offer suggestions on the Spanish recordings and I will do so for the English ones, as long as no-one minds ending up speaking like a Kiwi

Our good brand new friend from Mexico has kindly agreed to moderate this thread, I am happy to seegrin

Julian just said this:

Te hago estas críticas porque sé que son cosas que tú puedes mejorar fácilmente. Espero que no lo tomes a mal smile. - fjfuentesh

I am sure you will all be grateful for his corrections, please let him knowwink

Kiwi is very pleased, and so am I.

Please, for everybody:

Correct Julian's English, here on this thread and on other threads, he is helping a lot!!

Please fill in the gaps in the following paragraph and then record and upload the whole dialogue for us all to enjoy

Heidita has agregado esto?

Feel free to post both an English and a Spanish copy of the transcript. smile

Read the following text and fill in the gaps

Kiwi Girl's Spanish Audio Link on Archive.org

Instructions for uploading your file smile

Ok thanks to Jen this is the easiest way to link an audio file -

  1. Create and save your audio file on your computer
  2. Go to Archive.org
  3. Create an account by signing in (very quick and easy)
  4. Click on upload
  5. Click on 'Share' (top right hand corner)
  6. Choose your file
  7. Once it has uploaded copy the link and paste it here using the picture of the
earth and an arrow smile Voila!

And thanks to Quentin here's a podcast on how to make and upload your audio file if it's all a bit much smile Quentin's Podcast You should find the windows player (which also records) in Accessories smile If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, go to the start menu and just type Sound Recorder in the search box. If it is installed, it will show a link to the program.

If you're on a Mac and make your file in Garage Band the only difference is that at the end you will need to export it to Itunes - do this by clicking 'Share' then 'Send song to Itunes' - easy peasy. Once there Itunes converts it to an 'aiff' file which is fine to upload into Archivo.org.

Instrucciones para subir tu archivo cheese

  4. Click en "Upload(Cargar)"
  5. Click en 'Share' (esquina superior derecha).
  6. Elige tu archivo
  7. Una vez cargado, copia el link(el que está abajo del mensaje "Your page is ready") y pegalo aquí. Voila!

@ Koala don't worry my voice sounds like I'm about 7 when it's recorded lol :P - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 10, 2011
futbol is soccer. - BellaMargarita, Jun 10, 2011
Thank you Bella! By the way, "netball" is like "baloncesto". right? - 00a4c226, Jun 10, 2011
I think that's the closest you'll get for netball as I don't think there's a translation and baloncesto can also be basketball :( Maybe you should invent a new spanish word je je - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 10, 2011
Lol! Kiwi, that is my problem! I sound much younger in a recorded voice, and if it doesn - Destroyed99, Jun 10, 2011
do that then I sound like a man, because my voice it a bit deep :( lol - Destroyed99, Jun 10, 2011

Aww, umm. lol - Destroyed99, Jun 11, 2011
But I am going to have to do it in Spanish right? I can't say over half of those words! :O lol, there ya go, my excuse :P - Destroyed99, Jun 11, 2011
Why not add an English one to start with :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 11, 2011

oh come on! - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 12, 2011
baloncesto is basketball. Netball is similar but a different sport. - BellaMargarita, Jun 13, 2011
Yes Margaret but there doesn't seem to be a spanish word for netball so they sometimes use baloncesto meaning netball, I've also seen baloncesto femenino - perhaps that'd work although it's a bit sexist and might put men off playing lol je je - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 13, 2011

Yes, well done Alejandro Good English clearly spoken and easy to listen to :) - FELIZ77, Jun 14, 2011
Excellent English Ale, bien hecho. You finish your words off nicely which is not always easy for native Spanish speakers. Just a couple of very small suggestions - make sure that you pronounce 'of' with more of a 'v' sound so that it doesn't sound like - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 14, 2011
'off' and where you say 'I'd like to' did you mean 'I would like to' or just 'I like to'? - you may have meant it but incase you didn't the first one means that you don't but wish you did :) Other than that, awesome, thanks for joining in :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jun 14, 2011

Kiwi Girl's English Audio

Once you have made your audio file in Windows Media Player or similar, if you're having trouble uploading your file these instructions may help:

Create and save your audio file on your computer

Go to Archive.org

Create an account by signing in (very quick and easy)

Click on upload

Click on 'Share' (top right hand corner)

Choose your file

Once it has uploaded copy the link and paste it here using the picture of the earth and an arrow Voila!

If you have any problems actually making the recording or problems with windows, finding the recorder etc then I think Quentin's your man and also Yesero I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you PM'd them with any questions smile (je je hope they don't mind me volunteering them lol) smile
