in the sentence taken from a LaTeX book i saw "it allows to define multiple floats within one environment giving individual captions and labels in the form 1a, 1b." can u give me synonyms?... thx 4 helping me out ^^

This is a technical term, you need to ask people who have knowledge of the field.

Hmm...
I think we need more of that sentence to form a proper context. It sounds to me like it's a technical definition possibly from computer science or economics?
