Advanced Students of Spanish: Translate to Spanish (2)

Question

This exercise is only for advanced students, not easy, trust me

You need vocabulary, my student Silvia is pretty advanced, but ...I think this one was too hard for her. Look for vocabulary on the flashcards (three sets) especially created for this student:

4º ESO Lesson 1 to 5

Her teacher is (fortunately ) one of a kind, omg, she is not teaching English but how to translate it...and you get one single letter wrong, you can forget about the whole sentence

Anyway, this is an excellent exercise for advanced students. I hope you like it.

Sus trabajos escritos y proyectos son siempre impecables.

Most of you wrote ensayos, this teacher was looking for written works, I agree with her, ensayo can mean , also in this context, rehearsal, so that would be too unclear.

Es el protagonista.

According to the given vocabulary in the flashcards this was the only correct possibility.

However, most or all of you wrote "desempeñar el papel principal"..this can be used for any kind of leading role, like for example a business meeting...where the leader was mister x.

Se hizo famosa después de aparecer en aquel anuncio.

I am wondering myself why she was asking for a plural translation of "anuncio". However, would advertisement, singular, mean one ad shown only once?

Jeezle, you asked for se hizo famosa, that is the best translation, llegó a ser famosa is also correct.

Fue el primero en alcanzar la cima del Everest.

Here we go again with the given vocabulary, in any case, the best of the best ...coronar el Everest (Jenny, that was you)

Fueron enterrados juntos.

Se enterraron juntos...well this is possible on the beach, where children often bury each other in the sand

Encontraron un mapache en el salón de Ana.

I have accepted sala and also carro in the sentence below. In Spain that would not be acceptable as these words mean, big hall and cart or trolley.

Hay menos coches en Toledo que en Madrid.

I think cazadora is only used in Spain. The last part was difficult, very different structure from the English version.

Actually llevar puesto was perfect too.

Just a comment, Heidi. I'm currently more than halfway through reading 'Viajes por los majestuosos Andes', and they have never mentioned the word 'coronar' - 'cumbre' and 'cima' they have used frequently. - galsally, Feb 16, 2011

I'd say 'that advertisement' would mean a particular advertisement, but that it could have been shown many times and in different places. 'Those ads' would imply more than one different ad. - galsally, Feb 16, 2011
