The protagonist in my audio book, Manolo (Manolín) seems to have developed a strong instinct while in jail for a year and a half at a young age (instinto taleguero).

Mi instinto taleguero, que nunca falla, anunciaba esparrame.

But I cannot figure out what his instinct is telling him. I do not find any verb in my several dictionaries or here at SpanishDict.com of which "esparrame" might be a form.

Is this a verb peculiar to the south of Spain? I think that my hero must come from El Puerto near Cadíz, where young boys sometimes think of a lovely young girl as

un yogurcito, o mejor, un petisuis

which are also words I did not find but the meanings of which I can imagine. (Yogur means yoghurt, I learned. I found a picture of a tiny cup of yoghurt product called "Pettisuis".)

Esparrame is not only from the South, because I'm from the North, and I say that. smile It's the colloquial form of this verb:

Desparramar

  1. To scatter, to disseminate, to overspread.
  2. To squander, to dissipate, to lavish. verb reflexive
  3. To give oneself up to pleasures with extravagance and excess, to be dissipated.

Petisuis ( Petit suisse)

( Oh, memories!)

Thank you, thank you..te doy las gracias, Cogumela! Puedo seguir por la prosima ocación. Es por eso que me dura una vida "leer" una novela. (De hecho no leyo, más bien, escucho - porque lo sé, que ningun mi escribirá nunca lo que me dice cuando por fin hablo en un país hispano-parlante.

Pero es muy difícil y también tengo que hacer alguna que otra trampa y buscarme esporadicamente la pagina escrita. Esa vez pero no! gracia a te.

I have found a verb table for: esparramar in the dictionary online belonging to the Real Academia Español.

Perhaps esparrame is the present subjunctive - first or third person. And perhaps, then, the imperative?

The meaning given explains why I did not easily find it.

esparramar.

  1. tr. vulg. desparramar.

Now I can look for desparramargrin

  • Esparrame is used like a noun here. It's not conjugated - cogumela Jan 23, 2011 flag

Now I have found a noun that fits the sense of Manolín's exclamation:

desparrame * SM confusion, disorder

Anyway, I don't understand what this says, can you give some context? Let's have the three last sentences or something, in my opinion it still makes no sense at all.

Heidita, you asked

Let's have the three last sentences or something,

Let me give you the last three paragraphs. You will see that the young man instinctively realizes that the young girl .. una niña,

Tenía dieciséis años, un libro de piratas bajo la almohada y como en los cuentos una hermanastra mala,,,

is going to spell trouble for him....

Llevaba un vestido corto, ligero, negro, con florecitas amontenadas, y le faltaban dos botones del escote. Pelo oscuro, piel morena, un sueño tierno y quinceañero de esos que salen en la tele anunciando compresas que ni se mueven, ni se notan, ni traspasan. O sea. Lo que en El Puerto llamábamos un yogurcito, o mejor – un petisuis. --Cómo te llamas. Me miraba los tatuajes. --Manolo –respondí. --Yo me llamo Maria. Hostias con Maria, vete largando, Manolín, colega, pero ya mismo me dije:

We can see already that he is going to get involved in the girl's fate. And somehow he recognizes that the situation is dangerous, too.

--¿Qué haces? –pregunto. --Guia un camión – dije por decir algo. --¿A dónde? --Al sur, a Faro en Portugal, al mar. Mi instinto taleguero, que nunca falla anunciaba esparrame. Y como para confirmarlo apareció Porky al oltro lado del pasillo.

I was fortunate to find this first chapter printed on the web and available from the author's site. I think I will go mad working my way through the next chapters. I am so keen to see what happens!! I will probably have to buy the book to accompany the "audio-libro" that I am listening to. And thank heavens you all are there!!
