Language proficiency on sign up page!! Showing now on profile!
Teamwork: Marianne, Eddy and myself.
I wish I could stick a photo of this here, but I don't know how, so you will have to look on the sign up page yourself.
The language proficiency has been included!!
This is what Chris said:
...will add the native language question to the signup form for two weeks. If there is no impact on the percent of people that sign up, or if its small, then we can leave it up there. If we find that it is a deterrent, then we will revert to having the question stay within the edit profile form.
Ok, so let's hope for the best

Biiiiiiiig Difference!!
I just replied to the post of a brand new member, who wrote something really strange in his first post.
I checked his profile, and that completely changed the tone and kind of answer I was thinking of giving him.
His profile told me where he hails from, and what his language proficiency is. He also wrote a couple of lines about himself, and that really made all the difference.
So, I wish I could vote a hundred times for this fantastic and much wanted advance!
And Chris should probably brace himself for a big, noisy riot if he decides to take it off again!!!
Woohooo!!!
¡Bravooo! ¡Excelente trabajo!
¡Yay!
W O W !!! - Great
I am sure it will not be a deterrent. Great Job!
Looks good and pretty simple to me, I think it will be a great help to everyone here.
lI don't think I've grasped the idea... When I clicked the link, I was told that I'm already signed up with SpanishDict.
¡Chévere! I think this will avoid quite a bit of confusion when trying to answer questions.
I just looked at my profile and it still doesn't say which is my native language. I think that makes a difference, even if someone is fluent. In answering quesitons, I may refrain from idiomatic expressions even if someone is fluent but not native. And when I get answers to my questions, I am curious about whether someone is a native speaker because that affects subjective judgements in what sounds right.
I went there on a computer that doesn't have my password memorized, and it is clearly there, exactly as I would have wanted it. It doesn't seem like it would slow anyone down in joining, and I think it will provide very useful information. Hopefully us all going to check out out the page, then not (re-)joining, won't confuse anyone to thinking it is acting as a deterrent. I think it will help quite a bit in deciphering questions as well as determining the level on which to answer them (and sometimes the language in which to answer).
Was this feature turned off again? I have noticed that a number of new members are once again showing up without any useful information on their profiles.
This is really very unhelpful and, in my opionion, harmful, because as wel all know, asnwers can be very different if we know what is the background of the person asking the question.
If the feature is supposed to be working, I'd request that it please get checked. If it was turned off, I'd like to start a new campaign to turn it on again!!
Ah... qué mal... ¿Y eso no se puede cambiar también? :( - Gekkosan
I would agree, it should be fairly easy to make the registration page the same no matter how you access it. And it should be the same for everyone. - Stadt
As it seems it can't be done , not so easily, actually I think we have passed the trial time though...at least those who register through the main sign up paper do have to post all their info

The promblen arises when the new member registers from here. I had seen that too, some members come up with the new info and others don't, so I sent a letter, once again, I am sucha drag...
Well, so I got the answer that if they register from the "do you want to ask a question" page, then the info is not included. Sad.
[Look here][1] and scroll down, at the bottom you see a short form of the register form, which only shows if you are not logged in or registered already.
This is what comes up:

I just went to a computer that I am not prelogged into, and went to the sign-up page. It is there, as easily found as it was originally. I am assuming people therefore are just choosing not to enter that information. I am not sure if a statement before that section to the effect of "We can be more helpful if we understand your language abilities" would increase the rate of filling that out (someone can probably write a better sentence than me). I do have a bit of the attitude that if the opportunity is there and they do not bother to use it, they get the response they deserve. I know there has been some desire to have it a mandatory block, but I got the feeling the owner did not want to do that, and since I have seen some profiles where the language levels they chose clearly did not reflext their real language abilities, I am not convinced even that would solve everything. I would add, as per the post by jhodges, that adding the category of "native" would help distinguish between fluent non-native speakers and native.
Fabulous. Now we can be gentle with those who are truly in over their heads and encouraging to beginners in any language......and can say all the things that we've heretofore only thought to those who are just being ridiculous!
Ok, we finally did it, jeje, this is a member who has just joined:

I am wondering though; this member has only just registered, so the language proficiency should show, but it does not..
I am looking into it.
