I have heard the word puneta spoken in a slang way and am not 100% sure what the meaning was. It was derogatory.

You are probably referring to the word puñeta, which is not technically slang, although in practice it is. The word comes from "puño" (fist). Here is a picture of a "puñeta" (a vow cuff):

The old expression "Vete a hacer puñetas" was a way of saying "Go away!" or "Get lost!", because doing vow cuffs by hand was a very long and boring task. Nowadays most people (except maybe some grandparents) use this word with much harder intentions, which this forum will not allow.
