A - Z False Cognates

Question

A false cognate is a word that appears to be similar to another word in a different language, yet has a different meaning.

Let's do an A - Z game based on false cognates, words that may look alike, but are very different. I'll start:

If you mean: 2. The person who affects to speak or preach in a pompous and emphatical manner. (m) then yes! But it seems to be that the English word gerund and the Spanish are the same, even if those things happen to be different in different languages. - rabbitwho, Sep 1, 2010
