''Desde'' means from in terms of time and distance. ''De'' means from in terms of where someone was born, or where something was made.

Yo trabajo desde las ocho hasta las cinco. - I work from 8 to 5.

Ella es de California. - She is from California.

De ......... From, About, Of

Ser ........ To be (State of permanent being) IE: Heidita es mujer.

Estar ........ To be (State of temporary being or condition) Gekkosan está trabajando.
